He visited South Africa in 1906 as a member of a comedy company performing in the Opera House, Cape Town under the auspices of the Wheeler Theatre Company from 27 August onwards. He made a particular impression as "Captain James Barley" in Beauty and the Barge (Jacobs and Parker). The company also included such fine performers as Marie Housley, Wilfred E.
