The original text
Mentioned as a "new play" in 1811, it may have been a Dutch translation or adaptation of Le Voyageur by Madame de Genlis[1], a play for young people contained in her collection Théâtre à l'Usage des Jeunes Personnes, (four volumes, published in Paris by Panckoucke, 1779-1780).

1811: Performed in Dutch by "eenige Liefhebbers" ("some amateurs") in Cape Town on Saturday 24 August, with the one-act comedy 1ste Gallus Bene Cantat, of Is Het Hy Wel? (Anon.) Possibly a spin-off of the French youth company run by messrs Agron, Villet and Meurant - who are responsible for ticket sales
