Carl Beukes (born 1976-). Actor.

Biography

Youth

Played the role of "Baloo" the bear in Jungle Book when he was 9 years old and fell in love with acting. He went on to the National School of Arts to complete high school, playing lead roles in plays such as Annie, Royal Hunt of the Sun, Blood for Blood, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Fiddler on the Roof, Crimes of the Heart among others.

After leaving school in 1995, he did children's theatre in productions such as Tom Sawyer, Sleeping Beauty, etc. Participated in short-film productions with AFDA (the South African School of Film, Television and Dramatic Art. These films include Hai, Honeygun & Amazolo.

Professional stage roles include Detective Mike Strydom in Malcolm Terrey's Shear Madness (1997), Malcolm in Megan Wilson's Macbeth (1998), Howard in Certified Male (December 2001). He also starred in Macbeth (2006), Ben Elton’s Popcorn (2007), Death of a Colonialist (2011).

He played Anton in Cedric Sundstrom's TV movie If This Be Treason (1997).

His first feature film was Pure Blood (1999) and he starred as James in Jozi released in 2010.

He won 1st prize in the DALRO National Acting Competition in 1995.
