Of Jack or Alf?  ** Starred in ''[[Guys and Dolls]]'' ([[JODS]] , 1965), [[Joan Brickhill]] and [[Louis Burke]]’s ''[[The Minstrel Scandals]]'' for [[ACT]] (1966),  * STODEL, Charles. Actor. Starred in a stage version of [[André Gide]]’s novella, ''[[The Immoralist]]''. It was staged at the [[Windmill Theatre]] by [[Ruth Oppenheim]] and company post 1955, and also starred [[Stanley Coghan]] and [[Bernadine Grunewald]]. He starred in the revue ''[[What Was, Was!]]'' by [[Gertie Awerbuch]] and [[Miriam Lopert]]. It also starred [[June Hern]] and [[Michael Fisher]] and was staged at the [[Jewish Guild]] and the [[Alexander]] in 1965. He starred in the [[JODS]] production of [[Frank Loesser]]’s musical ''[[Guys and Dolls]]'' which was based on the writings of [[Damon Runyon]] at the [[Civic]] in 1965. [[Anthony Farmer]] directed and did the design for this musical which also starred [[Michael McGovern]], [[Diane Todd]], [[Patricia Langford]] and [[Bradley Harris]]. It returned for another sell out season the following year. Starred in [[Joan Brickhill]] and [[Louis Burke]]’s ''[[The Minstrel Scandals]]'' for [[ACT]], which opened at the [[Alhambra]] in Cape Town before playing at the [[Empire]] in 1966. [[Boris Cohen]] was the musical director, and other performers included [[Lynton Burns]], [[Olive King]], [[Michael Fisher]], [[Stephanie Shiller]], [[Beryl Ellis]], [[Jeanette James]], [[Ronnie Grainge]] and [[Aubrey Ellis]] with [[Joan Brickhill]] playing the lead girl. He starred in the[[Brickhill-Burke]] production of [[Jerry Herman]]’s musical ''[[Hello Dolly!]]'' together with [[Joan Brickhill]], [[Mike Huff]], [[Iain Henderson]], [[Andrea Catzel]], [[June Hern]] and [[Victor Melleney]]. It was directed by [[Louis Burke]] and staged at [[His Majesty’s]] in 1980.

Charles Stodel (19**-) was a South African stage performer and poet.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He has appeared on stage in Night (June 1950), Hassan (1950), The Immoralist (circa 1956), The Strong Are Lonely at the Library Theatre, Johannesburg, in June 1957, Peter Pan at the Johannesburg Reps Theatre for Christmas 1957, as Mr Samuel in The Red Silk Umbrella (1962), Guys and Dolls (JODS , 1965), The Deadly Game (1965), the revue What Was, Was! (1965), The Minstrel Scandals for ACT (1966), Fiddler on the Roof (1969), Hello Dolly! at His Majesty's Theatre in 1980, West Side Story (PACT Opera production at the State Theatre, Pretoria, from 27 November 1995.

He directed Jack and the Beanstalk (1972).
