Born in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, in 1975. The family moved around a bit till they settled in Belville, Cape Town.

Lindie Stander (1975-) is a theatre, TV and radio actress, a writer and a stand-up comedienne.

Biography

Born in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, in 1975. The family moved around a bit till they settled in Belville, Cape Town.

She studied drama at the Stellenbosch University Drama Department, completing a B.A. Drama in 1997 and a B.Dram. in 1998, and then entered the industry as stand up comediemnen and actress.

In 2022 she published Agter my glimlag ("Behind my smile"), an honest and moving autobiography of her traumatic personal life.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Stage work

As a student she appeared in Pinocchio (circa 1994), Barcodes (1997) and Die Vryerige Spook (1998). Other productions include Grensgeval (2000), Bees (2000), Naelstring ('n band tussen twee teaterstrominge), Tip (as Didi, 2002), Bok-bok staan styf (Malan Steyn, KKNK, 2002) and Die Van Aardes van Grootoor (2004).

Lindie has also made her name as a stand-up comedienne, notably for shows such as Man-alleen (2003), Vingeralleen (2004), Tien teen een weer alleen (2005), co-written with Gaerin Hauptfleisch and originally directed by Hauptfleisch.

Radio Work

Performed in various radio dramas for RSG over the years and appeared in the stand-up programme Klets for the same station.

Film work

Hart in Bos (as "Suzaan Martins"), produced by Garden Route Media for the kykNET Silwerskermfees, 2022.

TV work

Besides her starring role as Eliza in Binnelanders (2006-2012; 2017-) and period as Field Presenter for the journal Kwela (2004-2006), she also appeared in the soap operas Seepglad (as "Melanie"), Villa Rosa (as "Beulah").
