Madame de Sade [1] is a 1965 play by Yukio Mishima [2], translated from the Japanese by Donald Keene. A version of the story of the Marquis de Sade. First produced in South Africa by The Company during the 1970s in The Nunnery in Johannesburg.
Other productions include the Baxter Theatre and the Grahamstown Festival, 1997, directed by Geoffrey Hyland and featuring Antoinette Kellermann, Claire Berlein, Michelle Scott, Mary Dreyer, Terry Norton, Susan Dall. Set design, Brian Collins; Lighting design, Paul Abrams; Costumes Ann Sharfman and Yvonne Bleach. (Festival programme, 1997).
