Lida en die liedjieskrywer ("Lida and the song writer") is an Afrikaans operetta with libretto by playwright Joan Retief (1929-2014) and music by composer Stephanus le Roux Marais (1896-1979)[1]

The original text

An operetta in 4 acts, it was first performed at the Union Festival in 1960, directed by Joan Retief. The text was published by the Federasie van Afrikaanse Kultuurvereniginge (FAK) in 1961.

The piece, with its ballet and choric numbers, would go on to become a popular work for performance by schools. Among the popular songs in the piece are "Miskien miskien, as drome eendag werklik word" ("Maybe maybe, if dreams come true one day") and "Moes ek jou vind om jou weer te verloor" ("I had to find you to lose you again").
