The Hawtrey Comedy Company was a British theatrical touring company headed by the actor-manager William (W.F.) Hawtrey (fl. early 1900s) (and originally founded with his brother, the more famous Charles Hawtrey, 1858-1923[1])
The company visited South Africa in 1894 with a production of Charley's Aunt (Thomas), done as one of the first performances at the Good Hope Theatre, Cape Town, under the management of the Wheeler Company. Greyvenstein dates this tour as 1893.
