Animals is a musical by Willem van der Walt and Allan Stephenson.
The original text
The piece is an adaptation of George Orwell’s classic, Animal Farm. Musically, it has a wide range of styles. Dramatically, it incorporates rhythmic choral speech and movement sequences.
Performance history in South Africa
The musical Animals was conceived and first performed in the early-1980s. In the year 2000, Animals was 'refurbished' and has been performed by many schools in South Africa including Bloemhopf Meisies Skool (Stellenbosch), Hottentots-Holland High School (Somerset West), Rustenburg Girls High School (Rondebosch), High School for Girls (Potchefstroom) and the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa in September 2012.
