Biography
Training
Widaad Albertus attained a B-Tech in Surface Design from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
She started her professional theatre career as a dresser on shows such as The Fugard Theatre’s Blood Brothers, The Rocky Horror Show and Orpheus in Africa. In 2015 she went on to head and style Madame Zingara’s costumes for their Celebration Tour.
Since 2016, Widaad has become a permanent member of The Fugard Theatre as Head of Wardrobe, overseeing wardrobes on shows such as District Six - Kanala, Shakespeare in Love and West Side Story, to name a few.
2017 saw her step into the role of Costume Designer on Greg Karvellas’ production of Louis Viljoen’s The Eulogists. Widaad then collaborated with Costume Designer Birrie le Roux as Associate Costume Designer for The Fugard Theatre’s King Kong – the Musical. Other productions she has worked on include co-styling (with Birrie le Roux) Shakespeare in Love and costume designing Louis Viljoen’s The Demon Bride, as well as Greg Karvellas’ Significant Other. She was costume designer for Langarm (Fugard Theatre; 2018).
