Perdeby ("hornet" or "wasp") is the original name of the University of Pretoria's Afrikaans language student newspaper (Later changed to PDBY)
Also found as Die Perdeby ("the hornet") in some sources.
The first issue of Perdeby appeared in 1939, publishing news items on campus life and general matters, including sport and entertainment items of relevance to students and staff.
It would later also be used as a development platform for young journalists through in-job training and a real newsroom work environment..
Today it known as PDBY and has become a multilingual publication distributed in both print and digital formats.
