Standpunte was an Afrikaans literary quarterly.
The journal
The founding editors were N.P. van Wyk Louw, W.E.G. Louw and H.A. Mulder, and the first issue (Jaargang 1 no. 1) appeared in December, 1945, published in Cape Town by Nasionale Boekhandel Bpk. It existed from 1945 to 1986. Contributions were mainly in Afrikaans, with occasional contributions in English and Dutch.
The journal was an influential vehicle for the promotion of Afrikaans as a literary and academic language. Though the journal tended to focus on literary theory, poetry and prose, and has relatively few contributions on drama and the performing arts, some of the latter have been quite influential. (A number of these articles are listed in the ESAT Bibliography)
