Ma-Gents is a physical theatre piece workshopped in 1997 by Lara Foot-Newton with members of the North-West Drama Company.

Subject
In a physical theatre style, including mime, song and dance and using four languages in the dialogue, the play explores perceptions of masculinity in the New South Africa (1997) through three male actors in an energetic ensemble piece examining communication and inter-cultural interaction in the new Rainbow Nation. Performance history in South Africa
1997-1998: Premièred on the Fringe of the Grahamstown Festival in July 1997, staged by the North-West Drama Company, workshopped and directed by Lara Foot-Newton with Lionel Newton, Kholofelo Kola and Peter Mashigo. The same production went to the Hilton Arts Festival in September 1997 and the Barney Simon Theatre in the Market Theatre in March 1998.
