Betty Hugo (19**- 2001).

Biography

Born Betty Botha in Cape Town, the daughter of Minna Freund and Judge C.L. Botha. Married to Leon Hugo.

Youth

Training

Studied at University of Stellenbosch.

Career

She was a founder member of the Libertas Theatre Club in Stellenbosch.

Became a lecturer in English at the University of South Africa and later the Pretoria Technikon. While there she was an active member of the *** dramatic society and wrote a thesis on translations of Shaw’s works into German.

She was a lecturer in drama at Pretoria University in 1978.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

She produced a production of The Dark is Light Enough in Stellenbosch.
