Ilse studied at the Stellenbosch University Drama Department

As a student she had roles in Paradox (1996), A Midsummer Night's Dream (1997), Die Vryerige Spook, Baal (1998).

She wrote Angels Everywhere with Abduragmaan Adams and Die Joseph en Mary Affair with Malan Steyn.

She has appeared on stage in Antjie Somers (2000), , Buckingham Palace, District Six (2000-2001), Suip! (2007), Doubt (2007), Die Proponentjie (2010).
