He was born in Stellenbosch and matriculated from Kayamandi High School in 1998.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He has worked on music and drama productions at the Klein Libertas Theatre in Stellenbosch.
His acting career on stage includes roles in Big Dada (2005), Amaza by Z.S. Qangule (Artscape Theatre 2009), Elke Duim 'n Koning, Woyzeck (2010), Mies Julie (as "John" 2012-13), Balbesit (2014), Ityala la Mawele (also its musical director, 2015), Marat/Sade (2017).
He was responsible, with Adriaan Brandt, for the music for the production of Waarom is dié wat voor toi-toi altyd so vet?, 1999.
In 2008 he was the Musical Director for Karoo Moose.
He is part of the management team of the Zabalaza Festival at the Baxter Theatre.
Bongile played "Vija" in the award-winning film Inxeba: The Wound.
