The Vrystaat Kunstefees is an Afrikaans language arts festival held annually in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
Founded in 2001 as the Volksblad-kunstefees (Volksblad Arts Festival), it takes place during the June/July holidays on the campus of the University of the Free State.
Originally sponsored by the Afrikaans-language daily newspaper Volksblad [1].
Later renamed the Vryfees ("Free Festival"), as the mandate expanded and in 2018 the name was changed once more to become the Vrystaat Kunstefees (the Vrystaat Arts Festival in English and Tsa-Botjhaba in Southern Sotho), with the objective now being to forge creative connections with English and Sotho cultures.
