Biography

Youth

Training

He studied at UCT.

Career

Left for England to teach. Appointed Professor of Drama at the University of Cape Town Drama Department of which he became Chair from 1990.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

As a student he had roles in The Fantasticks (1968), Hamlet (1969), The Crucible, (1970), Brecht on Brecht (1970),

He worked for CAPAB from 1971 acting in Fando en Lis and Die Twee Laksmanne (1971), King Lear (CAPAB 1971), When Thou Art King (1971), Romeo and Juliet (1972, Hond se Gedagte (1971), The Stronger (1972).

Othello Slegs Blankes (The Space, 1972). In 1989 he played in a Baxter production of Crossing the Line.

He directed The Caucasian Chalk Circle (1986), Three Sisters (1987), Zones of Peace in March 1989, Uncle Vanya (1993).
