The author directed and designed the first production Upstairs at the The Space (Cape Town) in 1972 with Jack Klaff, Peter Piccolo and Jacqui Singer. Lighting by Brian Astbury, stage management by Donald Fuller and Frank Perkins. Because of nude scenes, the play received a banning notice after its third night, but the Censors never arrived.
