Brett Adkins (?-2026). Journalist, radio producer, playwright and actor.

Biography
Born and grew up in East London, and attended Dale College in King Williams Town. He trained as a journalist with South African Associated Newspapers. He worked at The Herald in Port Elizabeth before taking up a role as a Radio Today correspondent (based in Port Elizabeth) and then as a producer for Radio Today in Johannesburg for about eight years. He was subsequently transferred back to Port Elizabeth and began working for two years as a news reader and breakfast show producer for the then Radio Algoa alongside his work as a writer for The Herald.
He was the former Weekend Post news editor and Arts editor for The Herald. He started working exclusively for the Weekend Post in 1996.
In 2021, he co-founded (with Charl Barnard) Two Dam Fools, an online tourism promotion project on YouTube.

As an actor
He appeared in a number of productions, including: Richard III, Ritual for Dolls (PEMADS, 1985), Kennedy's Children (1988), The Taming of the Shrew (Port Elizabeth Shakespearean Festival, 1989), M. Butterfly (CAPAB & Port Elizabeth Shakespearean Festival, 1991), Twelfth Night (Port Elizabeth Shakespearean Festival, 1993), An Ideal Husband (PEMADS, 2003), Blithe Spirit (PEMADS, 2010).
As playwright
He wrote a number of plays, including:
- Fade to Black (1993)
- Summit (1995)
- Esmerelda Elephant in Nkululekuland
- Esmerelda Elephant and her Gift-Wrapping Factory
Awards
He won a Vodacom Journalist of the Year award.
