Prophet of the Waterberg is a play by Nicky Rebelo (1958-).


The original text

Yet another dramatised version of the story of the enigmatic and pioneering Afrikaans author, poet and scientist Eugene N. Marais.

The subtitle of this play reads in search of the soul of Eugene Marais - a story of survival, drugs, sex and politics.

Performance history in South Africa

2005: Premiére production staged at the KKNK, directed by Nicky Rebelo, with Dawid Minnaar (Eugene Marais), David Butler (Mike le Roux) and Bianca Clarke (Edna le Roux). Set designer Nadia Cohen, lighting designer Wesley France.

2006: The same production was staged in the Barney Simon Theatre at the Market Theatre.
