Bafana Republic 1 is a satirical play about South African society, written by Mike van Graan

The original text

Part of the Bafana Republic series by Van Graan. Originally called simply Bafana Republic, the name was altered to Bafana Republic 1 to fit in as the first play in the series.

Performance history in South Africa

2007: In draft form, the play had its first public performances as Bafana Republic at the Franschhoek Literary Festival on 11 and 12 May.

2007: Its first, full production opened at On Broadway on Tuesday 29 May and ran till Saturday 16 June. Directed by Lara Bye, with Lindiwe Matshikiza and a technical support team consisting of James Webb (sound), Jaco Bouwer (movement and vimeo) and Jesse Kramer.
