Willie Esterhuizen (19**-). Actor for stage, television, and film, and hugely successful scriptwriter for television sitcoms.

Training

He studied ballet at UCT and drama at Arts Educational in London.

Career

He worked with CAPAB.

His most memorable television sitcom-series were Orkney Snork Nie (= “Orkney does not snore”) and Vetkoekpaleis (= “palace of doughnuts”). In the latter he also played the central character, “Worsie” (= “Little Sausage”).

He appeared on stage in a Maynardville production of Much Ado about Nothing in 1977.

Willie played the role of Faan in the 2013 film version of Faan se Trein.

Awards

He was the winner of the Amstel Playwright of the Year Special Merit Award in 1981 for his play Spaceships and Peanut Butter.
