(1878-1948). Also known as William Pagel. Circus performer and proprieter. Born in Germany he first became a stoker on a merchant ship, then joined an Australian circus as professional strongman. In 1905 he established a circus , Pagel's Circus, in South Africa. This toured and became famous.
