Wild Honey

Wild Honey is an adaptation Michael Frayn (born 1933) of an untitled early drama by Anton Chekhov (1860-1904).

The original text

The original Russian text is untiled, but is known in Russian as Пьеса без названия (Pesa bez nazvania) and is sometimes referred to in English as Platonov, after the leading character.

Michael Frayn adapted the play as a three act play in In 1984, calling it Wild Honey (or in some cases Wild Honey: the untitled play).

Frayn's adaptation was given its first production at London's National Theatre in 1984 and won Olivier Awards in three categories: for Ian McKellen as Actor of the Year in a Revival, Christopher Morahan as Director of the Year and John Gunter as Designer of the Year.

Presented by PACT English Drama Company, performed in the Alexander, the State Theatre, and the Baxter Theatre in 1986, directed by Bobby Heaney, featuring Jana Cilliers, Graham Hopkins, Billy Second, Bruce Alexander, André J. Jacobs, Michael McCabe, Peter Terry, Charlotte Butler, Michael Richard, John Lesley, Clare Stopford, James Borthwick, Guy de Lancey, Bill Curry. Designer Andrew Botha, lighting designer Stan Knight.
