Who Killed Jimmy Valentine? is a 'Musical Whodunnit' by composer Allan Stephenson and librettist Michael Williams. In this collaborative work, Williams wrote 30% of the tunes while Stephenson is credited with the other 70%.

The original text

Commissioned by the Volkswagen Musicactive Programme. It is a story written for teenagers about a taxi-war with Romeo & Juliet elements. The feuding families are represented by two taxi gangs comprising the Valentine and Tetwa families.

Performance history in South Africa

1995: Premiered at the Baxter Theatre (7 September 1995 - 16 September 1995). Directed by Michael Williams, musical direction by George Michie, choreography by Jacky Job. With Jean-Pierre van der Spuy, Keeno-Lee Hector, Loretta Engelbrecht, Alfred Wildebees, Jolene Martin, Vuyani Buwe, Cecilia Goncalves, Basil Tshabalala, Mawethu Tsengiwe, Thokozani Manyange, Ger-Marie van Rooyen.

1999: Presented by Hottentots Holland High School, June 1999, Somerset West. Director Johan Laten, Musical Director Cor Ellis-Gardiner; with students of Hottentots Holland High School.
