Vincent: a play by Neil Sandilands

A one-man piece based on the life of Vincent van Gogh.

Vincent and another play titled Noir, was written, produced and performed in by Sandilands during his time at University, being performed at the University and at the National Arts Festival.

Vincent: a cabaret by Amanda Bothma

The original text

Also billed as Vincent – His Quest To Love And Be Loved, it is a multimedia cabaret about the tragic life of painter Vincent van Gogh.[1]

The play has won numerous since its inception, including a Standard Bank Ovation award, a Fleur du Cap Award, three Naledi Awards and a KKNK Kanna award.

Performance history in South Africa

2022: Performed at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in July and Hilton Arts Festival in September, directed Amanda Bothma, with Daniel Anderson as "Vincent" and musical direction and accompaniment by Germainne Gamiet.

2025: Billed as Vincent – His Quest To Love And Be Loved, Produced by the national touring company Wela Kapela and directed by Amanda Bothma with Daniel Anderson, accompanied by Paul Ferreira on piano, the work made its debut in London's West End and had a sold out season at the Edinburgh Festival,

2026: The play returned to South Africa to perform for many Western Cape communities in July, inluding the Drostdy Theatre in Stellenbosch, Die Boer Teater in Durbanville, and the Koelkamers in Paternoster. Once more directed by Amanda Bothma with Daniel Anderson, accompanied by Paul Ferreira on piano.
