A notion of the 1980’s which ostensibly refers to theatre aimed at achieving freedom from political oppression under the Apartheid regime. It is for example what Mbongeni Ngema calls his theatre from the 1980’s (*?), though some authors have doubts on this score. [cf Kruger 1999. P184]
