The Yellow Dwarf and The King of the Gold Mines is a one-act "fairy extravaganza" written by British dramatist James Planché.

The original text

A delightful and imaginative work of dramatic literature, this play tells the story of a magical encounter between a Yellow Dwarf and a King of the Gold Mines.

First performed on December 26, 1854, it is a theatrical adaptation of the classic French fairy tale by Countess d'Aulnoy.

Performance history in South Africa

1922: The Yellow Dwarf presented at the Rondebosch Town Hall, directed by Gwladys Carlsson, featuring her pupils.

1924: The Yellow Dwarf presented at the Wynberg Town Hall by Gladys Lazarus, featuring her pupils.
