First performed at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket on 4 June, 1842. Published by Edward Moxon in 1842.

Performance history in South Africa
1850 Performed by the Garrison Amateur Players, led by Captain Hall, on 31 July , with A Practical Man (Bernard - wrongly announced as The Practical Man).
1850: Repeated by the Garrison Amateur Players on 9 August with Shocking Events (Buckstone) as afterpiece.
