The original text
A one act play about one act play about a farmer who welcomes his prodigal son home, but then encourages him to fasten a noose around his neck, written by Eugene O'Neill (1888–1953). The text was first published January 1, 1919, by Random House, Inc.

Adapted for television and shown on American Playwrights Theater: The One-Acts (TV Series) om 1989, directed by Lela Swift with a stellar cast including Elizabeth Ashley, Brad Davis and José Ferrer.
