The Roll of the Drum is a romantic drama in three acts by Thomas Egerton Wilks (1812-1854)

The original text

Said by F.C.L. Bosman (1980, p.526) to be taken "na die Frans" (i.e. "from the French"), though no other evidence for this claim could be found.

First performed in London at the Adelphi Theatre in November 1843 and at Sadler's Wells Theatre. Published in London by T.H. Lacy and in Chicago : Dramatic Publishing Co., [1843?])

1866: Performed as The Roll of the Drum in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, by the Le Roy-Duret Company on 30 July, with The Four Sisters (Brooks).
