The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me
A one-actor play by David Drake (1994). Published by Anchor Books, New York (1994).
Original text
The play follows the rite-of-passage formula and its sole focus is gay pride. The protagonist’s militant monologue on the contemporary gay condition deals explicitly with homoerotic issues.
One of the longest one-actor plays in Off Broadway history, Larry Kramer has received over thirty productions in nearly a dozen countries, and the published version was nominated for a Lambda Literary Award. In 2000 Drake starred in a movie version of The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me, directed by Tim Kirkman. [1]
Performance history in South Africa
Staged in South Africa in 1995 in the Laager at the Market Theatre, directed by Yael Farber, with Robert Finlayson in the solo role.
