by Nadine Gordimer. It won second prize in the FATSSA one-act playwriting competition in 1947. In the play Dante and Virgil pay a visit to the first circle of hell, where they question six South Africans and find out why they have been consigned there. Published in Six One-Act Plays by South African Authors (Pretoria: J.L. van Schaik,1949).
