The Actor's Centre

The Actor's Centre was founded by Dorothy-Ann Gould in 2001. Housed at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre.

It was an independently managed training and education institution independently run by professional actors. The Actors Centre organised productions, a whole schedule of classes providing training to performers as well as rehearsed play readings, guest lectures and other theatrically related presentations.

The Centre was based on similar ones in New York and London and provided a facility for professional actors to meet and to practise and develop their art and their skills. The space provided to the Actors’ Centre consisted of a small theatre, offices, a bar foyer and a lounge.

The Centre closed in 2008 due to a lack of funding. The closing production was Doctor Faustus.
