Tanja Graafland

Tanja Graafland was born in Florida, Johannesburg, and spent her childhood in Cape Town where she studied at UCT Ballet School. Later returned to Johannesburg where she trained at the National School of the Arts and privately with Reina Berman. Joined PACT Ballet 1986, achieving principal status in 1992. Repertoire includes Odette-Odile in Swan Lake, Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, Nikiya in La Bayadere, Swanhilda in Coppelia, title roles in Papillon, Rosalinda, The Merry Widow, Cinderella, Giselle and La Sylphide, Bianca in The Taming of the Shrew, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Natasha in War and Peace, the ballerina roles in The Nutcracker and A Christmas Dream and in many shorter ballets. Recipient of awards from The Friends of the Ballet, DALRO, FNB Vita and Nederburg.
