Hendrik Brand is the pseudonym of Sydney Harold Skaife (1889-1976)[1] world renowned entomologist, school inspector, author, broadcaster and conservationist.

Commonly known as Sydney Skaife and popularly referred to as "Stacey", he used the pseudonym Hendrik Brand when writing stories and plays in Afrikaans.

Biography

As a world renowned entomologist with main research interest in social insects, he was also a school inspector, author, broadcaster, and conservationist.

Of his many achievements his greatest was probably his leading role in the creation of the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Lived most of his life in Hout Bay on the Cape Peninsula.

Adriaan Hugo – series of Afrikaans detective novels under the pseudonym of Hendrik Brand, which started with the novel Adriaan Hugo (speurder) in 1931 (Nasionale Pers

Die Swart Hand ("The Black Hand"), was one of the stories, and was adapted for the stage by Brand and André Huguenet and taken on tour by the André Huguenet Company in 1934) with a play called Die Skerpioen ("The Scorpion") also by Brand.

Die Skerpioen was later broadcast and recorded on records by the SABC as Tamboere in die Nag, starring the Hanekom Company, directed by André Huguenet.
