Stomp is a stage musical by Steve McNicholas (1955-)[1] and Luke Cresswell (1963-)[2].

The original text

The musical was created in Brighton, United Kingdom in 1991. The performers use a variety of everyday objects (e,g, a combination of dance, music and theatrical performance, that uses matchboxes, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters and more) as percussion instruments in their shows. The show previewed at London's Bloomsbury Theatre and premiered at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh.

Between 1991 and 1994, the original cast of Stomp played to capacity audiences around the world, before it opened with a new cast at the Orpheum Theatre in New York City in February 1994. An expanded version

Stomp has to date been seen by over 12 million people worldwide, with long running productions in London, Paris, Las Vegas, Boston and San Francisco and New York. still running, now celebrating its 25th year.

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

2010: The show was brought to South Africa for a nationwide tour by Hazel Feldman and Showtime Management, where it played to critical acclaim and sold out performances.

2019: The show once more brought to South Africa for a nationwide tour by Hazel Feldman and Showtime Management, at the Teatro at Montecasino, Johannesburg (13 August - 8 September) and Artscape Opera House, Cape Town (11 - 22 September).
