Siegfried Kuschke

Siegfried Kuschke (1918-1971) was an industrialist, financier and supporter of Afrikaans and the arts.

Biography

Born Georg Siegfried Kuschke in Johannesburg, 1918, he studied geology at the universities of Stellenbosch and Pretoria. In 1943 he joined the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa, becoming Manager in 1959, Executive Manager in 1964 and Chairman of the Council in 1970.

He passed away on 27 Julie 1971 in Johannesburg.

In 1962, he chaired the Die Johannesburgse Afrikaanse Toneelkomitee, an organization responsible for staging Die Besoek van die Ou Dame (Durrenmatt, translated by Bartho Smit) as the Afrikaans language contribution to the inauguration festivities for the Johannesburg Civic Theatre.
