Samson and Delilah

Samson and Delilah can refer to two works:

  • the translation into English of Samson og Delila, a 1909 play by Danish playwright Sven Lange (1868-1930) [1].
  • the translation into English of Samson et Dalila, an 1877 opera by Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921).

Performance history of the play in South Africa

1951: Presented by the Sarah Sylvia Company in the Labia Theatre starring American actor Jacob Ben-Ami.

Performance history of the opera in South Africa

Approx. 1941: Presented in Pretoria’s Alhambra Theatre with the tenor Dirk Lourens.
