Roger Orton

Roger Orton (1931-). Actor, director and academic.

Trained at the Department of Drama, University of Natal, Durban. He became head of the Drama Department University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg during the 1970s.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He acted in As You Like It (as Jacques), Hamlet (NAPAC 1964), A Man for All Seasons (as Thomas More, 1964), Twelfth Night, or What You Will (as Sir Andrew Aguecheek, Durban 1970).

He directed a number of productions, including:

circa 1964: The Maids (University of Natal Department of Speech and Drama)

1972: Noah (University of Natal Department of Speech and Drama)

1976: Love's Labour's Lost (University of Natal Department of Speech and Drama)

1983: The Other Side of the Wardrobe (University of Natal Department of Speech and Drama)
