The original text

Adapted from Elliott's 1994 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the stage version is referred to as a "jukebox musical" and uses well-known pop songs as its score to tell of the comic adventures of two drag queens and a trans woman, who travel to the Australian town of Alice Springs on their lavender bus called "Priscilla" , to perform a drag show there.

The piece first opened in Australia at the Lyric Theatre, Sydney in October 2006, followed by opening productions on the West End (2009), and Broadway (2011).
