Princess Zinzi Mhlongo is a theatre director and playwright.

Also referred to as Princess Mhlongo or as Zinzi Mhlongo.

Biography

Born Princess Zinzi Mhlongo in eMalahleni, Witbank Mpumalanga, she completed her B-Tech in 2007 and went on to work with a range of theatre companies, including the State Theatre, the Market Theatre, the Windybrow Theatre, and international companies and festivals.

She later also founded a production company, Tick Tock Production.

Contribution to South African theatre, film, media and performance

She made her professional debut as director with a production of Zakes Mda's And The Girls in Their Sunday Dresses at the State Theatre in 2008. Her repertoire of productions has also included productions of Naked Goddess, So What's New?, 4.48 Psychosis and she has assisted in a number of community theatre projects.

In 2012 she was selected as one of four young directors from all over the World to be part of the Salzburg Young Director Project, presenting her own play, Trapped, there.

She had in fact made her debut as director with the play at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in 2012, when she was the Standard Bank Young Artist of The Year. First shown at Grahamstown, it then travelled to Salzburg for the international event.
