Pomp

This was the first edition of what is intended to be an annual publication in Afrikaans for anyone and everyone interested in using and enjoying the language, edited by Hendrik Venter and published by Griffel Media. A thick (452 pages on heavy-duty paper), well produced and richly illustrated book, the contents tend to be short but richly illustrated articles giving extensive coverage of all the arts, from architecture to wine, though there are articles on other creative pursuits (travel, sport) and general commentary as well. Among the 43 contributors are some of the more interesting Afrikaans writers, artists and arts commentators of our time (e.g. Joan Hambidge, Riana Scheepers, Dana Snyman, Hans Pienaar, M.C. Botha, Eunice Basson, Steve Hofmeyr and Johan Lodewyk Marais), but also many new, young voices. It is similar to its rival Bravo! and also a little like a LitNet in print. POMP 08 was launched at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees in March 2008.
