Playreading Groups, Playreading Societies or Playreading Clubs were quite popular in the 19th century. This usually refers to a group of theatre-lovers or literary enthusiasts, who meet for the purpose of discuyssing and undertaking dramatised readings of plays, either for their members or for the public.

In some cases referred to as Dramatic Entertainment (e.g. see the Bloemfontein Literary and Scientific Society).

For information on a specific group by this name, see Toneelleesklub and Bloemfontein theatre in the 19thC
