Philip Meskin (1934-1997). Actor and director in Durban. Judge of the High Court In Kwazulu Natal.

Biography

Philip Maurice MeskJn was born In Johannesburg In 1934. He matriculated at Parktown Boys' High School and graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a BA and an LL.B.

He was a member of the Durban Jewish Club. He died in a car accident in December 1997 at the age of 63.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Despite his busy practice he had a long-standing involvement with amateur theatricals in Durban. He and his wife, Paddy Glasser, met as members of the same drama club. They wrote plays together, while Judge Meskin also wrote and directed several on his own.

One of his most cherished memories concerns The Diary of Anne Frank. In the mid·70s he directed a performance of this play with his older daughter Tamar, then 12, as the lead. The play was staged at the Durban Jewish Club and was produced by him and his wife.
