Peter Joyce is a book editor and writer.

Biography

He studied modern history at Cambridge University, before immigrating to Africa. After spending time in Zimbabwe working for publishing companies, he moved to Cape Town to help launch the Readers Digest book-publishing division. Leaving to become a freelance writer, he went on to produce more than 60 books, in such varied fields as travel, history, biography, home improvement and a children's novel have also featured.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

His paperback source book, A Concise Dictionary of South African Biography, is extremely useful for information on South African critics, performers and writers. Similarly his compendium publication South Africa in the 20th century: Chronicles of an Era (also published in Afrikaans as Suid-Afrika in die 20ste eeu. Een honderd jaar in oënskou) by Struik Uitgewers in 2000, is a good source for contextual material for any study of theatre, film and media in the period in question.
