National Union of South African Students (NUSAS) was a non-racial student organisation established in 1924 to bring all students together. However, it gradually lost influence on the campuses of Afrikaans universities because of its liberal stance, and lost the more militant black students to SASO. So by the 1980s it was primarily confined to the liberal English campuses.
