Natalie Knight

Natalie Knight (19**-) is a journalist, feature writer, playwright and art historian, art gallery owner

Biography

She initially completed a Diploma in Law at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1957, before attaining a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in History of Art and History of Drama there in 1975.

In 1966 she started Natalie Knight Productions, with the launch of her play Barmy Days. She was a freelance journalist for 10 years and then began research into the Ndebele art and culture in 1976. In 1981 she opened the Natalie Knight Gallery in Hyde Park, and has written edited several books on African art and culture, curates exhibitions internationally and and is recognized as an authority on Ndebele and Shangaan art. From December 2008 to February 2012 she also served as the Art Curator for the University of the Witwatersrand West Campus.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Beginning in the 1960s she also wrote a number of plays, including the musical play Barmy Days (with Ivor Miller), , There's No Sugar Left, The Black Maids, a play in two acts.
