The founding act of the National Arts Council of South Africa, Act No. 56, 1997. The intention of which was:
"To establish a juristic person to be known as the National Arts Council; to
determine its objects, functions and method of work; to prescribe the manner in
which it is to be managed and governed; to regulate its stafl matters and financial
affairs; and to provide for matters connected therewith."
The Afrikaans text was signed by the President on 6 November 1997..
